The Solis was commissioned for a home overlooking the Californian desert. The brief was simply, sunrise. The feeling of standing in front of one, when the light comes over the ridge and the world goes briefly, completely gold.
Not a recording. Not a speaker. The hammers move, the strings sound, the music fills the room exactly as it would if someone were seated there. The only difference is that no one is.

The sun segment runs across the back of the instrument. It folds flat. When the lid rises, it rises with it. The effect, in a room, at the right hour, is not decorative. It feels territorial.
